EdgeConneX is seeking up to $4 billion in debt financing to expand its Texas data center operations, according to cryptocurrency news. The firm plans two new facilities in Bastrop County, each spanning 730,000 square feet. The project aligns with rising demand for infrastructure linked to blockchain and cryptocurrency. EdgeConneX, which operates over 90 data centers globally, previously secured $3.3 billion in sustainability-linked financing in 2023. The move comes amid shifting inflation data and growing interest in energy-efficient data center projects.

EdgeConneX is exploring as much as $4 billion in debt financing for a data center project in Texas, according to people familiar with the matter.

The financing would support the company’s aggressive expansion in Bastrop County, Texas, where EdgeConneX filed plans in June 2026 for two new data centers, EDCAUS11 and EDCAUS12, each spanning 730,000 square feet. Combined, that’s 1.46 million square feet of compute capacity sitting on a 180-acre site the company acquired in November 2025.

The Texas data center gold rush

Bastrop County has become a particular hotspot for this convergence. The area already hosts a cluster of data center developments, including facilities linked to blockchain and cryptocurrency operations. EdgeConneX’s own phased AUS01 campus in Bastrop, valued at $1.44 billion, is already in development. The new facilities represent a significant escalation of that commitment.

A company built for scale

EdgeConneX was founded in 2009 and acquired by EQT Infrastructure in 2020. Since then, the company has grown to operate or develop over 90 data centers globally, with a particular focus on AI-optimized, high-density compute environments.

The potential $4 billion raise would not be EdgeConneX’s first foray into massive debt financing. In 2023, the company secured $3.3 billion in sustainability-linked financing, which at the time ranked among the largest capital raises in the data center sector.

What this means for crypto and AI investors

For crypto market participants, EdgeConneX’s Texas expansion is worth watching even though the facilities themselves aren’t directly involved in cryptocurrency operations. The reason is infrastructure overlap.

Investors should also keep an eye on local dynamics. Bastrop County residents have raised concerns about resource consumption and environmental impacts from the proliferation of data centers in their community. Regulatory pushback at the local level could slow timelines or increase costs, a risk factor that applies equally to crypto mining facilities operating in the same region.
