Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi said the crypto market is at the center of a global surge in hacking, akin to the impact of a pandemic. He noted that on-chain attacks are the easiest to monetize, making crypto-focused analysis of protocol security vital. While the number of hacks is rising, annualized losses are down, indicating smaller average thefts. Attackers target weak DeFi protocols, while major projects use AI for defense. Haseeb warned that traditional industries may soon face similar threats.

BlockBeats news, on October 22, Dragonfly managing partner Haseeb Qureshi stated that global cybersecurity is currently experiencing a wave of cyberattacks akin to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the crypto industry having already been the first to encounter this trend. He believes that, since on-chain attacks are the easiest to monetize directly, security incidents in crypto protocols can be viewed as an early warning for broader internet security risks. While the number of cyberattacks in the crypto industry has surged sharply, the annualized total of stolen funds remains roughly consistent with 2025 levels, indicating a decline in the average loss per attack.

Haseeb noted that attackers are increasingly targeting small DeFi protocols with weak security measures and poor maintenance, while larger protocols have begun using AI tools to enhance their defenses. He expects this trend of large-scale attacks to also spread to traditional internet industries.
