DogeOS, the app layer for Dogecoin, launched its public testnet on September 30, 2026, offering an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible environment for developers. The testnet supports Ethereum news-style tools for building DeFi, gaming, and consumer apps on Dogecoin. Projects like Barkswap and USDoge are already active. The on-chain news event marks a step to broaden Dogecoin’s use cases beyond payments. DogeOS, which raised $6.9 million in May 2025, has not set a mainnet date but is enabling developers to test ahead of launch.

DogeOS, the application layer for Dogecoin founded by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, opened its public testnet on September 30, giving developers an Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible environment to build trading, lending, stablecoin, gaming and consumer applications that settle to the Dogecoin network. The project is betting that Dogecoin’s millions of holders and worldwide recognition give developers a ready audience for those applications.

The launch follows the $6.9 million that DogeOS raised in May 2025 to expand Dogecoin beyond payments and price speculation. Because the testnet is EVM-compatible, teams that already build for Ethereum and other EVM chains can use familiar tooling to deploy on Dogecoin.

EVM compatibility without changing Dogecoin

DogeOS positions itself as a layer that sits above the Dogecoin ledger rather than altering it. Dogecoin Foundation director Timothy Stebbing framed the design as a way to preserve the network’s simplicity: “L1 ledger purity must stay intact while we introduce utility one layer above, and that is what DogeOS represents to me. The utility of a smart-contract system, anchored to the simplicity of the Dogecoin network.”

The testnet also gives developers who already build for EVM blockchains a path to work on Dogecoin applications with familiar tooling, a step the project hopes will draw experienced teams into its ecosystem.

The first wave of ecosystem teams

Several teams are already building on the testnet. Barkswap is developing a liquidity engine, Superposition Finance a Dogecoin lending protocol, Derps a perpetual exchange, Split Markets non-liquidatable options, and USDoge a collateralized-debt-position stablecoin. Snag is building a prediction market aggregator, while Anoncoin and Starbase are working on launchpads and Doge Escape, PlaysOut and DogeFundMe on games and consumer apps.

Founder CEO Jordan Jefferson cast the launch as a turning point for the meme coin’s holders: “The teams joining this ecosystem are tackling the pieces DOGE has been missing: markets, financial tools, games and more ways to use Dogecoin. Today marks the beginning of Dogecoin’s evolution from asset to ecosystem.”

What is still ahead

DogeOS has not set a mainnet launch date, and the availability of each application depends on its own team’s schedule. For now, the public testnet gives builders a live environment to develop and test products ahead of that mainnet, with developer resources available through the project’s documentation. DogeOS said it expects to add further developer tools, integrations and ecosystem projects as the testnet matures.
