Digital wallets accounted for more than half of global online transaction volume in 2026, as crypto market adoption surged rapidly. The Global Payments Report 2026 projects crypto transaction volume to grow at a 16% CAGR through 2030, reaching $31 billion in e-commerce. Despite a $3.2 trillion crypto market cap by 2025, only 10% of merchants accept crypto, which represented just 0.19% of e-commerce payments in 2025.

Huo Xing Finance reports, according to Caixin, Global Payments' "Global Payments Report 2026" states that digital wallets now account for more than half of global online transaction volume and one-third of offline transactions. Digital wallets can flexibly integrate various payment methods, including cryptocurrencies. The report predicts that direct cryptocurrency payments will become the fastest-growing online payment method, with a compound annual growth rate of 16% between 2025 and 2030. This means that by 2030, e-commerce transactions directly paid with cryptocurrencies could reach approximately $31 billion, accounting for 0.28% of global e-commerce transaction volume. However, despite the global total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies nearing $3.2 trillion by the end of 2025, cryptocurrency remains a relatively niche payment method for consumers paying merchants. Reports from MRC and Visa indicate that only 10% of merchants worldwide directly accept cryptocurrency payments. In 2025, cryptocurrency accounted for just 0.19%—approximately $15 billion—of global e-commerce transaction volume.
