IT Home, October 13: Tech media Wccftech posted a blog yesterday (October 12) reporting that developer RafaelNGP has released PSBOX Cloud Gaming on GitHub, enabling the first successful operation of Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming on a modified PlayStation 5 console, with support for streaming up to 1080p@60fps.
IT Home, citing a blog post, reports that players can use the unofficial PSBOX Cloud Gaming client to browse the Xbox cloud gaming library and stream games at 1080p60 resolution on modified PlayStation 5 consoles.
The software supports mapping up to four DualSense controllers as Xbox controllers, allowing users to log into their Xbox accounts on the PS5 in the usual way and complete login via a code displayed on the TV using their smartphone.
PSBOX Cloud Gaming fully supports the DualSense controller, mapping it as an Xbox controller. Users can also use the PS5 system keyboard to input text in-game fields. Additionally, users can leverage the PS5 GPU to upsample the display to 4K using AMD FSR 1 or Anime4K, enabling higher-resolution output on PS5 display devices.
The installation process involves downloading the .zip file from GitHub, extracting it to a designated folder, waiting for the Homebrew loader to mount the application, and then launching and logging in. The software is still in early development, and some testers have reported video issues such as macroblocks and pink artifacts, as well as abnormal DualSense controller vibration.
In addition to Xbox Cloud Gaming, RafaelNGP added support for Xbox Remote Play after user requests. This feature allows users to stream games from their existing Xbox consoles to the PS5, though this capability was not available in the initial release; the developer released an update to add it several days later.
