ME AI News, Beating AI Brief, October 27: Hurun Research Institute released the "2026 Hurun Rich List." At age 41, Liang Wenhua, founder of DeepSeek, made his debut on the list with an estimated net worth of RMB 280 billion, ranking seventh in China—surpassing Ding Lei of NetEase and the Li Ka-shing family—to become the wealthiest new entrant this year. Liang was not on the list last year. Hurun explained this was largely due to his previous stance of "non-commercialization." However, DeepSeek began raising substantial funds this year, completing its first round in June and reaching a pre-money valuation of approximately RMB 500 billion in its second round in August. In October, DeepSeek closed a RMB 106-billion funding round, pushing its post-money valuation above RMB 600 billion. However, the Hurun List uses September 1 as the cutoff date for wealth calculations, meaning RMB 280 billion is only an estimated personal fortune. AI is also reshaping the entire rich list: Zhang Yiming of ByteDance saw his wealth increase by RMB 200 billion to RMB 670 billion, reclaiming the title of China’s richest person; Chen Tianshi of Cambricon entered the top ten with RMB 205 billion. Liu Debing and Tang Jie of Zhipu AI debuted on the list with RMB 39.5 billion and RMB 27.5 billion respectively. Hurun noted that over 160 entrepreneurs on this year’s list owe their wealth to the AI sector, accounting for roughly one-tenth of the total. (Source: MLion)
