ChainThink reports that on August 27, according to CoinDesk, developers of Core Lightning (CLN), a Bitcoin Lightning Network payment software, issued an urgent warning to node operators after receiving numerous AI-generated security reports identifying several actual vulnerabilities.
The development team recommends that operators avoid directly powering off the system and instead restart the software in "--offline" mode, which stops communication with other Lightning Network nodes while keeping the software running to continuously monitor the Bitcoin blockchain and safeguard funds in payment channels.
Since early August, the Core Lightning team has received a large number of AI-generated vulnerability reports, some of which have been confirmed as valid. Developers will keep the details confidential for two weeks to complete the fixes and plan to first release signed patch versions for operators to verify the source.
This is the second AI-related Lightning Network incident this month, following a vulnerability in BTCPay Server that led to the exposure of credentials for some nodes.
Additionally, in late July, the "Bitcoin Red Team," composed of 16 developers, used an AI model to scan 390 Bitcoin code repositories and identified nearly 5,000 issues, 85 of which were rated as critical.
