The CompTIA AgentOps+ certification will validate skills in deploying, securing, and governing AI agents.
Downers Grove, Illinois, October 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — AI agents are rapidly entering enterprise operations, but the skills needed to manage them responsibly remain undefined. CompTIA today announced plans to develop a new certification to define and validate these skills.
CompTIA AgentOps+ establishes a vendor-neutral standard for professionals responsible for deploying, securing, monitoring, and governing AI agents. This certification targets an emerging field encompassing AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and IT operations.
Carl Bowman, Senior Vice President and Head of Exam Services at CompTIA, said: “People have been focused on what AI agents can do, but the more urgent question is who will protect, govern, and be accountable for them. As agents gain access to enterprise data and workflows, organizations need professionals who can manage them securely and responsibly. CompTIA aims to help define this standard.”
According to KPMG’s AI Quarterly Pulse Survey, released in Q1 2026, more than half (54%) of organizations are actively deploying AI agents.1 This shift promises productivity gains but also introduces new security, governance, and operational risks. Deloitte found that only 21% of surveyed companies have a mature governance model for autonomous agents.2
The design of CompTIA AgentOps+ will center around enduring operational principles rather than the products or services of any single technology provider. The planned certification is expected to validate the following skills:
- Deploy and integrate AI agents
- Protect agent identity, permissions, and data access
- Monitor performance, behavior, and operational health
- Identify and respond to risks and events related to agents
- Supports governance, accountability, auditability, and human oversight
This certification is designed for professionals in DevOps, cloud operations, platform engineering, system administration, and cybersecurity. For employers, it provides a way to upskill employees and validate their AI operations capabilities. Educational institutions and training providers can prepare learners for emerging AI operations roles.
CompTIA AgentOps+ and a full suite of related learning products are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2027.
