Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global (Nasdaq stock code: $COIN) has launched a new app store that uses AI agents to process payments.
This app store is built on the company's x402 payment protocol and directly integrates permissionless stablecoin rails into the AI infrastructure of seven service categories.
As of April 21, 69,000 AI agents on x402 have processed over 165 million transactions, with a total payment volume of $50 million.
Coinbase stated that the seven categories are: reasoning, data, media, search, social, infrastructure, and trading.
The AI agent in the app store retrieves financial data from CoinGecko, processes it via OpenAI’s inference endpoint, executes trades through Bankr, and logs transactions via QuickNode infrastructure.
All of these steps can be completed without manual authorization at each stage of the process.
To date, the app store has processed 165 million payment transactions, with an average transaction amount of $0.31, as it has been optimized for microtransactions.
Coinbase Global stated that over time, the app store will be able to handle larger transactions and more complex applications.
COIN stock has risen 18% over the past 12 months and is currently trading at $206.68 per share.
