ChainThink reports that on October 30, according to Bloomberg, Canadian AI startup Cohere has completed the first close of its latest funding round, with the company’s valuation reaching $20.5 billion, approximately triple its value from a year ago.
The total funding for this round is expected to reach up to $5 billion, with investors including the Canadian government and NVIDIA, and the previously disclosed $600 million investment by the Schwarz Group also included. The Canadian government has agreed to invest up to $1.14 billion in Cohere.
Canadian Prime Minister Carney stated that Cohere plans to keep its headquarters in Canada and expects to invest approximately $1.2 billion in new computing infrastructure in the country by 2030.
Cohere has not disclosed the exact amount finalized in its $5 billion funding target, but the company’s CFO stated that the first closing has covered "the majority" of it. If the fundraising is completed successfully, this round will become the largest private financing in Canadian history.
The above valuation does not include the funds raised in this round.
