CoinDesk reports:

Tinton Falls, New Jersey, USA, October 30 /PRNewswire/ — Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) today announced the formation of the OpenAI Frontier Capability Group, consolidating over 25,000 professionals into a global OpenAI delivery organization responsible for delivering OpenAI products, including Codex and ChatGPT, to clients. The team aims to help businesses integrate OpenAI models into software development, customer service, and daily operations.

Today, the limiting factor for many businesses is no longer access to cutting-edge models, but rather a shortage of professionals who know how to integrate these models into the systems on which their businesses rely. Cognizant says it has been building this capability internally, with over 21,000 employees earning more than 40,000 OpenAI badges—awarded to those who complete OpenAI’s learning pathways. The newly formed team will add an organization dedicated to building and supporting OpenAI-powered systems for clients.

The company says this initiative is expected to leverage its Frontier workforce model, which is training Frontier Certified Engineers and Frontier Business Operators certified directly by frontier model companies.

Cognizant typically tests new approaches internally before rolling them out to clients. The company states that its sales and customer success teams are already using a solution built on OpenAI models to identify and advance new business opportunities. For clients, this means the team’s work is grounded in a method that has been scaled and validated within a global enterprise.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said, “Over the past 50 years, every enterprise technology transformation has changed who builds systems and how they are built. With Codex and ChatGPT, OpenAI is changing both simultaneously. We are committing over 25,000 employees to bring this transformation into our clients’ businesses. We are starting with our own business, and OpenAI is beginning to reshape how we sell.”

Dali Rajic, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI, said: “OpenAI is helping companies fundamentally rethink how they operate—from how they serve customers to how they get work done. Cognizant has integrated over 25,000 professionals into a dedicated OpenAI practice team and is applying our technology to its own operations, helping more businesses turn AI into meaningful business impact.”

Initial key focus areas

In its initial phase, the team will focus on three areas: AI-native software engineering using Codex, application modernization, and intelligent customer operations. Codex is the primary focus, designed to assist engineers in writing, testing, and deploying new code. For application modernization, the team will leverage the Cognizant Application Modernizer, powered by OpenAI models, to cover the full lifecycle—from reverse-engineering legacy mainframe code to generating cloud-native code. Engineers will review every key decision, supported by Cognizant’s extensive experience modernizing mainframe systems for over 500 clients. In customer operations, the team will apply OpenAI models to sales, service, and support, drawing on the company’s own experience using these models internally.

Cognizant has delivered results for clients: at a global biopharmaceutical company, Cognizant co-designed an enterprise assistant powered by OpenAI that integrates search, content creation, translation, and approval into a single platform. The assistant has handled over 5 million conversations and reduced content creation time by 60%.

Cognizant is one of the few Advanced partners in the OpenAI Partner Network. Its Codex hackathons held in India and the Americas attracted over 12,000 participants.
