Odaily Planet Daily report: According to data from the CME FedWatch tool, as of 11:40 AM Eastern Time on August 31, there is a 66% probability that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will raise the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%–4.00% at its September meeting.
Since 2022, the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates to combat rising inflation. At the recent Jackson Hole symposium, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh stated that the 12-month and 6-month increases in the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index were 3.7% and 4.1%, respectively, both above the 2% target, and that the current priority should be controlling prices.
Barclays expects the Federal Reserve to raise rates twice this year, in September and December, for a total increase of 50 basis points, raising the federal funds rate target range by 50 basis points from current levels. (Forbes Digital Assets)
