Shenchao Overview: During the comprehensive advancement of AI applications into vertical scenarios, personal financial management has long been regarded as one of the most challenging domains. The high sensitivity of financial privacy, the complex inter-institutional accounting systems, and the rigid requirement of zero tolerance for financial security errors have caused traditional large models to remain stuck at the stage of basic conceptual Q&A in this area.

Anthropic's official launch of Personal Finance in Claude marks the first time generative AI has entered the realm of personal finance with native, system-level integration. By deeply integrating with Plaid, a leading U.S. financial infrastructure provider, Claude eliminates the need for manual bookkeeping, enabling users to effortlessly consolidate and dynamically track their assets across multiple banks and institutions using everyday natural language.

More importantly, Anthropic has established extremely restrained boundaries in its product architecture: it strictly adheres to read-only access and physical isolation, firmly avoiding any involvement in transfers, payments, or investment management, and commits to never introducing financial product commissions, advertising, or product endorsements. This architecture not only sets a benchmark for privacy and security in AI financial assistants but also clears a well-defined path for future collaboration between large models and licensed professional financial institutions.

Ask Claude about your financial status to get the most straightforward answers directly from your linked accounts.

Understanding your financial situation no longer means opening each mobile banking app individually and calculating your accounts by hand.

With Claude’s Personal Finance feature, you can securely connect your bank and credit card accounts and ask any question in the everyday language you’re most comfortable with.

It is important to emphasize that access to this feature is strictly read-only. Claude’s personal finance feature cannot move, manage, or invest any of your funds.

Claude can use your account balance and transaction history to answer your questions in clear, everyday language and clearly explain any financial terms you're unfamiliar with.

Like other features of Claude, the personal finance feature includes no third-party advertisements or sponsored recommendations. It never promotes credit cards, loan products, or high-yield savings accounts, so every financial question you ask will receive only the purest, most objective direct answers.

Claude's personal finance feature is now rolling out in beta to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscription users in the United States this week.

Feature interface and real-world usage experience

Assume it is currently the end of the month, with exactly 10 days until the next payday.

When you ask Claude, “Where did all my money go this month?” it automatically aggregates spending from all your linked accounts and categorizes it precisely by expense type.

In this example, the total monthly expenses amount to $4,309.37. More than half of this amount was spent on rent and utilities, with an additional $1,024.51 allocated to dining expenses.

Building on this, you can follow up with Claude with deeper questions such as: “Is this more than usual?”, “Are there any other expenses I’ve missed?”, or “How much will I have left before my next payday?”

Claude will automatically review your historical income and expense trends from the past few months and highlight a recently processed membership subscription renewal payment.

Then, Claude will clearly list the four scheduled withdrawals that will be automatically deducted from your checking account before payday and precisely calculate your remaining available funds at that time: $1,393.22.

If you inquire about any anomalies in your account, Claude will cross-reference all your connected accounts and keenly highlight details that are easily overlooked in daily life—such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees, or gradual increases in billing amounts over the year.

You can also ask it broader financial questions, such as: “Am I spending more than I earn?” or “What is the annual percentage rate (APR), and how much did it cost me in total this year?”

Claude will first break down this technical term in simple language, then automatically calculate the total accumulated interest you've been charged this year.

If you need a weekly spending trend chart, an upcoming bill calendar, or a financial dashboard built from custom metrics, simply ask Claude—it will quickly generate a personalized visualization interface that you can continuously refine to suit your needs.

Security and Privacy Protection Mechanisms

Claude's underlying access is strictly limited to read-only permissions. The core purpose of the personal finance feature is to help you clearly understand your financial income and expenses; it was not designed to provide professional investment advice.

Claude may produce biases or errors in its responses. Therefore, we recommend that when you encounter critical data, you proactively ask Claude to list the specific transaction details supporting that figure and verify important account information with your bank.

Your financial accounts will only be officially connected after you log in to your bank through Plaid. Plaid is a trusted fintech network that securely connects applications to traditional banks.

During the integration process, you must agree to its terms of service and grant Claude read-only access. For this reason, Claude will never request, and is fundamentally unable to access, your banking passwords.

For the accounts you choose to connect (and only those accounts), Claude can access the following data: the bank name, account name, account type and last four digits of the card, real-time balance and credit limit, and transaction history for up to two years.

When you converse with Claude in your Personal Finance Center, all conversation content will not be used to train our underlying large language model.

Any content you share with Claude outside of your Personal Finance Center is managed according to your general privacy settings.

You can unbind any account at any time. Once unlinked, Claude will immediately lose all access to that account’s data. For more details, please visit our Privacy Center.

How to enable and configure

When you see the Personal Finance feature entry in Claude’s sidebar, simply click to open it, connect your first financial account, and ask a simple everyday question.

For example: "Can I afford a vacation this spring?" or "How much can I save each month?"

For detailed setup instructions and information on how your data is used and securely stored, please refer to the complete guide in our Help Center.

Future Evolution Direction

The launch of the personal finance feature is just the first step.

For major financial decisions in life, we believe that by having Claude collaborate with licensed professional advisors and regulated financial institutions trusted by users, we can deliver the highest quality professional services to everyone.

We are currently actively exploring how to realize this collaborative ecosystem within Claude. We look forward to hearing the insights of banks, wealth management advisors, and financial services firms to jointly shape the future of AI in finance.
