ChainThink reports that on August 5, according to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune today filed a motion to proceed on other bills, and the Crypto Market Structure Act (also known as the CLARITY Act) was not included.
Moving a discharge petition is a key procedural step for the Senate to advance legislation. With the U.S. Senate set to enter its August recess, the legislative window for the CLARITY Act is narrowing.
The bill previously passed the Senate Banking Committee, but Democrats and Republicans remain deadlocked over enforcement authority regarding ethical provisions that prohibit federal officials from issuing digital assets.
Maryland Senator Alsobrooks said she would not support the bill if enforcement authority were limited to the Department of Justice rather than retained by the states.
Predictive market Predict.fun shows that the probability of the CLARITY bill being signed into law by 2026 has dropped to 16%.
