Ethereum price today climbed as Citi raised its 2024 forecast to $3,028, a 35% increase. The bank cited stronger market activity, better macro conditions, and rising ETF demand. Ethereum news shows Bitcoin’s target also rose to $113,000. ETH remains stuck below $2,800, with recent attempts to break failing. ETF flows swung sharply in late September, ending with outflows. About 35% of ETH is now staked, lowering liquidity and possibly boosting price impact.

The bank cited stronger crypto-market activity, improving macro conditions and renewed ETF demand in its latest Bitcoin and Ether forecast. Citi also lifted its Bitcoin target to $113,000 from $82,000, suggesting its outlook has improved across the broader crypto market.

For ETH, the immediate question is whether price can turn that more favorable backdrop into a breakout above $2,800.

$2,800 Still Separates ETH From $3,000

Ethereum has repeatedly failed to hold above the $2,800 area during the past week.

That same resistance capped an earlier attempt after ETH briefly reached roughly $2,804 before falling back, leaving the market between support around $2,600–$2,660 and resistance near $2,800.

A sustained move through that ceiling would put the psychologically important $3,000 level back in play and bring Citi’s $3,028 target within roughly the same technical zone.

The setup builds on Ethereum’s recent failed breakout around $2,800, where strong ETF demand was not enough to keep ETH above resistance.

ETF Flows Remain Volatile

Institutional demand remains supportive, but it has become less consistent.

U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded strong inflows earlier in the final week of September, including $270 million on Sept. 21, $162.2 million on Sept. 22 and $104.5 million on Sept. 23. The trend then weakened, culminating in $59.6 million of net outflows on Sept. 30, according to Farside Investors.

That volatility helps explain why positive ETF flows have not automatically produced an ETH breakout.

There is still a structural supply argument beneath the price action. Roughly 35% of ETH is now staked, reducing the amount of liquid supply available to trade and potentially amplifying the impact of renewed demand. The effect becomes more relevant if staking continues tightening available ETH supply.
