火星财经消息: On August 13, Circle launched cirBTC, a tokenized Bitcoin asset, on Ethereum; however, its scale remains extremely limited, with only approximately 40 cirBTC in circulation as of the latest data—far below WBTC and Coinbase’s cbBTC. cirBTC was officially launched on Ethereum on June 8, not August 12. Ethereum contract data shows a maximum total supply of approximately 40.02 cirBTC, held across 11 addresses. Circle states that qualified institutional participants can mint and redeem cirBTC via Circle Mint; currently, Ethereum is the only live network, with future support planned for Circle’s proprietary blockchain, Arc, and additional networks. In terms of asset custody, cirBTC is issued by Circle International Bermuda Limited, with the underlying Bitcoin held in custody by Circle National Trust, specifically segregated for the benefit of cirBTC holders. Circle confirms that the underlying BTC is fully isolated from the company’s own assets. Reserve data as of August 11 shows a cirBTC supply of 40.02159077 and BTC reserves of 42.5070808; Circle has publicly disclosed the reserve address and balance, which can be verified on-chain via Bitcoin blockchain data. For reserve proof, Circle employs Chainlink’s Proof of Reserve mechanism rather than traditional monthly attestation. Chainlink’s solution publishes verified reserve data on-chain, enabling users and protocols to continuously monitor whether tokenized assets are fully collateralized. However, compared to current mainstream Bitcoin-wrapped assets, cirBTC remains in its early stages. According to CoinGecko data cited by The Defiant, WBTC has a circulating supply of approximately 116,100 tokens and a market cap of around $7.362 billion; cbBTC has a circulating supply of approximately 97,200 tokens and a market cap of around $6.162 billion. In contrast, cirBTC currently lacks a trackable market price or market cap. Circle positions cirBTC as a “neutral” Bitcoin-collateralized asset for institutions; however, this “neutrality” is primarily a commercial positioning rather than decentralized issuance. Circle states that it does not operate centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, or lending protocols that directly compete with cirBTC, and minting and redemption of cirBTC continue to be conducted exclusively through Circle Mint.
Circle's cirBTC has launched on Ethereum with only 40 tokens in circulation.
