ChainThink reports that on July 27, according to an official announcement, Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL) announced the acquisition of core assets from IBM’s blockchain patent portfolio.

This portfolio includes over 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 granted patents, covering blockchain foundational technologies, banking, financial services, insurance, enterprise infrastructure, supply chain verification, and secure cloud operations.

Circle stated that, following the acquisition, it became the company with the most blockchain patents in the United States.

The expanded intellectual property will support the infrastructure for on-chain products and agent-based financial tools such as USDC, the Circle Payments Network, and Arc. Circle and IBM also plan to explore additional business collaboration opportunities.
