According to ME News, on October 18 (UTC+8), Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wei Nan Professor at Peking University, Wei-Nan E, stated at the Guanghua Thought Forum that artificial intelligence is fundamentally "mathematics + computer engineering," and will significantly lower the barriers to scientific research, promoting the "democratization of science." Through open laboratories and cloud services, every team and individual with ideas and capabilities can participate in technological innovation, making "amateur scientists" the main force in future research. He believes the root cause of corporate cutthroat competition is insufficient innovation capacity; although high-end industrial software and CNC systems for machine tools remain dependent on foreign technology, it is possible to build an AI-native industrial software system capable of matching or even surpassing Siemens within one to two years. He distinguishes between AI for Science and AI for Industry, predicting that modeling of industrial production lines can be achieved within three to five years. He also warned that the current research system will face significant challenges and predicted that the primary form of research output will shift from academic papers to intellectual property.
