On-chain news reports that developer 'Otto' used ChatGPT Work to plan a nine-person trip with a single prompt. The AI generated three travel options, built a coordination website, and drafted an approval email within hours. The feature leverages Codex and GPT-5.6, along with integrations for Gmail, Google Drive, and Slack. AI and crypto news highlights the tool’s potential as a personal AGI, with praise from OpenAI executives.

Even Ultraman thinks the name "ChatGPT Work" is too small?

ChatGPT Work is amazing, and calling it "Work" undersells it.

ChatGPT Work

Late on July 26, Ultraman said on X.

Before posting, he had just used his phone to have ChatGPT plan a long weekend trip for himself and eight friends.

The instructions he provided were as follows:

Use my entire chat history to come up with ideas for a long weekend with my eight friends, plan out the top three options, build a full-stack website where all nine of us can discuss what to do at each location and decide where to go, and only book once everyone agrees. Also, draft an email in my Gmail that I can send to my friends once the website is ready.

Ultraman said it just worked.

Tibo Sottiaux, head of Codex and Work, retweeted this post.

He says ChatGPT now handles about twenty tasks for him each day: negotiating internet bills with service providers, unsubscribing from unwanted newsletters, and searching for product discounts.

Nothing is related to work, but Work accepted it all.

That’s why, a few days ago, Tibo joked on X that maybe ChatGPT Work should be renamed to “HelpMeWithEverything.”

OpenAI President Greg Brockman also reposted Tibo’s post, saying that ChatGPT is increasingly becoming your personal AGI.

ChatGPT Work

The product has been out for less than a month, and three executives have spoken out in succession.

What they mean is the same thing: The name "Work" feels a bit too narrow—ChatGPT Work isn't just targeting your job.

Speak a sentence into your phone, and you’ll instantly create a 9-person travel website.

If you break down Ultraman's command, ChatGPT performed five completely different tasks for him.

"Find ideas using all chat logs": This instruction begins with Ultraman’s entire chat history—what he likes, where he’s been, and who he’s hung out with.

"Plan the top three options": Based on these chat logs, have ChatGPT generate three optional solutions.

"Build a full-stack website": Let nine people coordinate what they want to do and decide where to go.

"Reservation": Make the reservation once everyone has reached an agreement.

Draft an email: Compose an email in Altman's Gmail stating that the website is ready and to be sent to his friends.

From recalling memories, drafting proposals, building websites, reaching consensus, to finally turning it all into a sendable email, all he needs to do is speak one sentence into his phone, and ChatGPT can handle it all for him.

These five tasks span three types of work: retrieving information from memory, building an interactive website from scratch, and composing an email to be sent from his inbox.

From giving you the answer to completing the task

If it were a year ago, asking an AI to plan a trip for nine people would have gotten you at most a travel guide.

Now, it can build a website for you, allowing nine people to access it, express their opinions, and modify the plan.

The feature that supports this action is called Sites, and it is entering public beta alongside ChatGPT Work.

The official positioning is to turn ideas or results into interactive websites and web applications, shareable via a single URL with your team or anyone else—ideal for real-time dashboards, project timelines, release schedules, prototypes, internal portals, and interactive reports.

More importantly, once the page is built, it isn’t set in stone. When the data it references changes, ChatGPT can automatically go back and update the content.

Officially demonstrated Sites example: an interactive revenue forecast dashboard that automatically updates when underlying data changes.

Engineers have long been able to create an app that can be shared with just a single prompt.

The barriers that once stood in the way of ordinary people—writing code, deploying, and setting up domains—have now been eliminated by AI.

It is ChatGPT Work's capabilities in these areas that enable it to run smoothly.

On July 9, OpenAI launched the agent ChatGPT Work, designed specifically for time-consuming, multi-step tasks that require tangible outputs.

It automatically breaks down complex projects into small steps and can work continuously for hours if needed.

Its underlying technology is Codex, powered by GPT-5.6, released on the same day. The following capabilities have also been updated:

Plugins connect ChatGPT to external systems like Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, and Slack, and you can also @mention them in prompts to have ChatGPT retrieve data from specific applications.

Sites handles website creation and can provide you with real-time dashboards, project tracking tables, and interactive reports;

Also included are scheduled tasks and automated review features: scheduled tasks run repeatedly according to a set schedule or triggered conditions; automated review performs a preliminary check before critical actions occur, preventing sensitive information from being accidentally sent.

Over five million people now use Codex each week, and more than one million of them use it for purposes entirely unrelated to writing code: this product was originally designed as a programming agent for developers.

OpenAI concludes that its capabilities are fully capable of handling a broader range of tasks.

OpenAI’s internal adoption rate is even more telling: nearly 100% of its teams, including finance and sales, are using Work and Codex.

Hand over the most annoying household chores to ChatGPT Work—it handles them all.

After the launch of ChatGPT Work, Graham Barlow of TechRadar dumped all the household chores he least wanted to handle onto it.

After using it for a week, the results exceeded his expectations.

For example, when asked to book a restaurant for an anniversary, it provided three suitable options—this was still the easiest task.

To plan a vacation, Graham inputs the dates, budget, and family requirements, and it searches for destinations, compares flight and accommodation options, creates a cost breakdown, builds an itinerary, and generates a separate checklist that tracks what’s been booked and what’s pending, updating in real time. It also checks existing bookings in Graham’s Gmail.

What Graham found most valuable was the transparency of the entire process: what it was doing, which sources it referenced, and every step was visible.

Manage the renovation—it involves comparing quotes, reviewing blueprints and product specifications, and tracking the timeline while overseeing unresolved decisions.

Graham considers the most useful task to be scheduling the entire family's activities for the coming week.

This task can be accomplished thanks to the scheduled task feature mentioned earlier.

ChatGPT Work

The mobile scheduling interface can execute tasks repeatedly according to a schedule or continuously monitor for changes.

ChatGPT used to have a longstanding limitation: it couldn’t act on its own schedule—you had to prompt it before it would do anything. Now, it can run tasks on a recurring schedule and monitor changes for you.

After connecting the calendar and email, Graham set up an automated task to generate the weekly family schedule every Sunday evening, with alerts for any changes. For example, school activities for the kids are easy to miss—any email from the school will be automatically caught.

After trying it out, Graham’s impression was that even an ordinary personal matter could become complex enough to warrant the use of an agent.

He also saw a new use for ChatGPT Work: having it oversee an entire process from start to finish, regardless of whether those tasks are related to work.

The smartphone has become the remote control for the agent.

Throughout the entire process, Altman only did three things: defined the goal, reviewed the plan, and approved key actions.

All three tasks are judgments; execution is fully handed over to ChatGPT.

So, where are the boundaries of AI in this implementation?

The first boundary is what it can read.

Ultraman wrote in the instruction, "Use all my chat history," but this was merely his request and does not mean the system can actually comply.

The official stance on Memory has always been that it aggregates useful context from chats, files, and connected apps, without promising to review every item in the history, and users can turn it off at any time.

What Work can access, when it can ask you for input, and whether it needs your approval before taking action are determined by you and your workspace administrator—it does not automatically have access to all your accounts by default.

The second boundary is what it can do.

Ultraman asked ChatGPT Work to draft an email for him; he needs a draft that he will review and send himself.

The email sample prompt provided by OpenAI on the Work product page is written as follows: Identify emails that require a response, summarize each one, draft replies, and leave them unsent for human review. The official release also states that critical actions involving connected tools must be approved before execution.

One additional detail to note: This command from Ultraman was sent from a mobile phone.

The role of the smartphone has changed—it is becoming a remote control for agents.

The web and mobile versions of Work run on the cloud, ensuring session synchronization across all three platforms: start a task on the go, review drafts while traveling, check progress during a meeting break, and when you return to your desk, pick up right where you left off on the web.

Barlow's assessment is that ChatGPT is beginning to become a place where you can advance any project at any time.

And this project is also likely unrelated to your work.

Brockman said that ChatGPT is increasingly becoming your personal AGI.

The hardest step in realizing this vision may not be whether the model is smart enough or the computing power is sufficient.

Authorization, payment, personal data… none of these decision-critical areas have been eliminated.
