The CFT framework has strengthened oversight, particularly following the approval of Bitcoin ETFs in 2024. Spot ETFs managed by BlackRock and Fidelity drove record inflows. The 2025 GENIUS Act enabled banks to issue stablecoins backed by U.S. Treasury assets.

ChainCatcher report: According to Chainalysis’s Wednesday report, “North America: The Inside Story of Agency Commerce Growth,” the United States became a net importer of Bitcoin in 2026—the first time since 2022. Data shows that institutions continued to buy Bitcoin this year, while retail investors overall remained in a selling mode. The report states that USD stablecoins have provided individuals without U.S. bank accounts a way to hold U.S. dollars, whereas Americans already have access to dollar-denominated accounts; thus, the rest of the world is turning to digital dollars, while Americans increasingly rely on Bitcoin as a scarce store of value. The report notes that since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in 2024, the U.S. share of global Bitcoin activity has risen in every reporting period, even as the size of the U.S. crypto economy contracted by 2.2% during the bear market, it still retained nearly half of its 2025 surge. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, after rejecting such products for a decade; funds managed by BlackRock, Fidelity, and more recently Morgan Stanley have set records for the most successful ETF launches in history. The report also states that stablecoins have transformed U.S. debt into the preferred currency for peer-to-peer economies and cross-border enterprises, with new stablecoin use cases continuing to emerge overseas in 2026, generating billions of dollars in economic activity for U.S. businesses and government. Since President Trump took office, he has signed multiple laws and executive orders supporting the crypto industry, including the 2025 GENIUS Act, which permits entities such as banks to issue stablecoins backed by assets like U.S. Treasuries, with monthly reserve disclosures required.
