According to TechFlow, as of December 3, 2025, the number of Web3 foundation registrations in the Cayman Islands has increased by approximately 30% compared to the end of 2024. Over 1,300 foundations were registered by the end of 2024, and more than 400 new registrations were added in 2025. These structures are increasingly used as legal wrappers for decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and as ecosystem managers for major Web3 projects. The Cayman Financial Authority reported that many of the world's largest Web3 projects have registered in the Cayman Islands, with at least 17 foundation companies holding over $100 million in treasury funds. The Cayman Islands is a popular choice for DAOs due to its legal framework that allows foundation companies to sign contracts, hire contributors, hold intellectual property, and interact with regulators while protecting token holders from personal liability. Notably, the new Cryptocurrency Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) will take effect on January 1, 2026, imposing due diligence and reporting obligations on Cayman's 'reporting crypto asset service providers.'
