Volcano Engine has launched an AI copyright management platform and extended beta invitations to copyright holders. The platform enables brands and short-form drama producers to utilize models such as Seedance and Seedream for commercial use of licensed, legitimate IPs. Currently, the platform has secured agreements with dozens of top-tier IPs, including Stephen Chow’s Biko Group’s films “The King of Comedy,” “The God of Cookery,” and “Chang Jiang No. 7,” as well as multiple leading artist management agencies. The platform offers two licensing models: “template creation” and “free creation,” with B2B project quotations reaching the million-dollar range. It is scheduled for official launch in the second half of this year. This move marks ByteDance’s shift in copyright strategy from “restricting generation” to “protected development,” addressing traditional licensing challenges through granular permission controls and revenue-sharing mechanisms. The Motion Picture Association has reached consensus with ByteDance on IP protection.Article author and source: Entertainment Capital Theory
According to Entertainment Capital, ByteDance’s Volcengine has recently sent invitations for an internal test of its “AI Copyright Management Platform” to multiple copyright holders. The platform allows brands, short drama producers, and others to utilize models such as Seedance and Seedream for commercial use of licensed, legitimate IPs. Copyright holders can monitor, review, and conduct real-time transactions via the backend. The platform is scheduled for official public launch in the second half of this year.
The platform has currently signed agreements with dozens of top-tier IPs, including classic films such as "The King of Comedy," "The God of Cookery," and "Chang Jiang Seven" from Stephen Chow’s Biko Group, as well as several leading artist management agencies.
In terms of business model, the platform offers two licensing formats: “template creation” for consumer-facing fan-generated content, and “free creation” for enterprise-level brand customization. It has been revealed that some enterprise projects have reached quote levels in the millions.
The launch of this platform marks Seedance’s copyright strategy shift from its early approach of “restricting generation to protect copyright” to “protected development.” Through granular permission settings and revenue-sharing mechanisms, the platform aims to address the pain points of traditional licensing processes—namely, their complexity and lengthy timelines—enabling copyright holders to generate incremental revenue in the AI era.
Previously, the Motion Picture Association reached an agreement with ByteDance on IP protection, acknowledging its technological advancements in copyright protection.
