ByteDance has rolled out SeedRealtime, a full-duplex multimodal AI model for real-time audio, video, and text processing. The model is now accessible via Doubao, ByteDance’s AI assistant app with over 200 million daily active users. SeedRealtime boosts conversational fluency by 12% over prior models, using advanced listening and noise suppression. It is being integrated into Coze, Jimeng, and Volcano Engine. Seed, ByteDance’s in-house research group, has launched three major AI models in five months. While AI + crypto news continues to grow, ByteDance has not tokenized its AI products or linked them to blockchain protocols. Real-world assets (RWA) news remains a separate focus in the broader crypto space.

ByteDance just dropped a new AI model that can see you, hear you, and talk back to you, all at the same time and in real time. The company’s internal AI research group, Seed, launched SeedRealtime on April 9, making it available to users of the Doubao app, which has quietly become one of the most widely used consumer AI products on the planet.

SeedRealtime is what’s called a “full-duplex multimodal model.” In English: it can process audio, video, and text simultaneously while you’re still talking, rather than waiting for you to finish before responding.

What SeedRealtime actually does

The model reportedly delivers a 12% improvement in conversational fluency compared to its predecessors. ByteDance attributes this to advanced listening techniques and interference suppression, which essentially means the AI got better at filtering out background noise and not tripping over itself mid-sentence.

The model is being deployed on Doubao, ByteDance’s flagship AI assistant app. The app boasts 155 million weekly active users, with daily active users surpassing 200 million shortly after the Lunar New Year in 2026.

Doubao powers interactions across multiple ByteDance products, including Coze, Jimeng, and Volcano Engine, giving SeedRealtime a distribution advantage that most AI startups can only dream about.

ByteDance’s AI roadmap is accelerating

SeedRealtime doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s the latest in a rapid-fire sequence of model releases from the Seed team, which was established in 2023 and now operates research centers across China, Singapore, and the United States.

ByteDance released Seed 2.0 in February 2026, and the company has Seedance 2.5 expected in late July 2026. That’s three major model launches in roughly five months.

What’s conspicuously absent from any of these announcements is cryptocurrency or blockchain. ByteDance has made zero moves to tokenize its AI products, launch utility tokens, or integrate with any blockchain protocol.

What this means for the broader market

The user engagement numbers from Doubao, over 200 million daily active users, represent the kind of traction that makes traditional investors comfortable writing large checks for AI rather than speculative digital assets.

AI tokens have seen significant trading volumes throughout 2026, and projects promising decentralized AI infrastructure continue to attract funding. ByteDance’s decision to keep its AI stack entirely centralized and off-chain doesn’t invalidate the decentralized AI thesis, but it does highlight a fundamental tension. The companies actually shipping AI products at massive scale are, so far, not the ones building on blockchain rails.

The real-time audio-visual AI space is heating up fast. OpenAI has been pushing similar capabilities, Google has Gemini’s multimodal features, and now ByteDance is deploying SeedRealtime to an audience that dwarfs most Western AI products’ user bases.
