A 23-year-old Brooklyn man, Ronald Spektor, was indicted on December 19, 2025, for a $16 million phishing scheme targeting Coinbase users. He impersonated support staff and stole assets from around 100 victims. Authorities seized $105K in cash and $400K in altcoins to watch. Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez said Spektor gambled the funds and boasted about his thefts. The case reflects rising fear and greed index swings as traders face growing phishing threats.
