Primary AWPer Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov delivered a highlight-reel collateral kill, the type of clip that racks up millions of views across social media and gaming platforms. And yet, not a single crypto brand had its logo attached to any of it.
The gap between gaming audiences and crypto dollars
The BLAST Premier’s 2026 season features zero crypto sponsorships or token integrations. That’s a notable shift from the landscape just a few years ago. BLAST Premier partnered with Coinbase back in 2021, when crypto companies were carpet-bombing every major sporting event with sponsorship deals. The Coinbase deal with BLAST was never succeeded by another crypto partnership, leaving competitive CS2’s premier league as a case study in the broader pullback.
Team Spirit’s rise, minus the crypto backing
Team Spirit has quietly built one of the most competitive CS2 rosters in the world. Sh1ro joined the organization in December 2023 after previous stints with Gambit and Cloud9, bringing with him a reputation as one of the most mechanically gifted players in the game.
The 25-year-old’s collateral kill against Team Liquid, taking out two opponents with a single bullet, was the kind of play that justified his recruitment. It helped secure Team Spirit’s spot in the semi-finals, continuing a run that has made them one of the tournament’s most dangerous teams.
The BLAST Premier tournament continues with Team Spirit in the semi-finals, sh1ro’s AWP presumably still warm. Millions will watch. And for now, they’ll watch without a single crypto logo in sight.
