BitMEX’s BMEX token, introduced in a 2021 token launch announcement, has seen 75% of its supply remain unclaimed as planned. Bubblemaps data indicates that 92% was locked in vesting contracts, with only 8% distributed at launch. Just 63.75 million BMEX were claimed in November 2022 for product and liquidity purposes. BitMEX announced its shutdown on July 23, with operations ceasing on September 23. Since then, BMEX has dropped 95%, trading at 0.0052 USDT. No new token listings or compensation plans have been announced, and all staked BMEX has been returned to holders.

ChainCatcher report: On-chain analytics platform Bubblemaps revealed that 75% of the BMEX supply, originally allocated for employee incentives, ecosystem growth, and long-term reserves, was never claimed. Data shows that 92% of the supply was initially locked in vesting contracts, while the remaining 8% was distributed at launch (5% for airdrops and 3% for product and liquidity). The only claim occurred on November 2, 2022, when the product and liquidity addresses claimed 63.75 million BMEX tokens; no other addresses have any claim records. Bubblemaps noted that the tokenomics or allocation plan may have undergone off-chain adjustments, but based on the publicly disclosed plan, these allocations were likely never executed. BitMEX announced on July 23 that it would officially cease operations on September 23. Since the closure announcement, the BMEX price has dropped approximately 95%, currently trading at around $0.0052 USDT. It is understood that the official handling of BMEX tokens is extremely limited, with no additional compensation or special arrangements. The only action explicitly mentioned in BitMEX’s official closure announcement is that the platform immediately unbonded all staked BMEX tokens and returned them directly to holders’ accounts.
