Bitcoin breaking news: Bitcoin pioneer Amir Taaki claims he was interrogated for six hours by Singapore police before being deported. The British-Iranian developer, known for his work on CoinJoin and libbitcoin, has faced expulsions and detentions in multiple countries. Taaki, currently working on the privacy project DarkFi, said authorities provided no clear reason for the questioning. This Bitcoin news emerges amid ongoing travel challenges for the cypherpunk.

ChainCatcher report: Amir Taaki, an early Bitcoin contributor and cypherpunk, stated on X that he was deported after being questioned by Singapore police for six hours regarding “the work I do.” The British-Iranian programmer said he has repeatedly encountered issues with certain countries since traveling to Syria years ago to fight alongside the Kurdish People's Protection Units. Taaki noted that in the past year alone, he was also deported from Argentina and Mexico, and detained in Serbia and Japan. He said that each time this occurs, he asks for the reason, but authorities always claim it is merely a random check and never provide specific grounds for detention or questioning. “I’m on a list, but I can’t find any information about which country has sanctioned me.” Taaki has long focused on Bitcoin privacy, developing the first implementations of CoinJoin and stealth addresses, creating libbitcoin, founding the UK’s first Bitcoin exchange, and authoring BIP 0001, which established the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal process. He is currently developing the privacy-focused encryption protocol DarkFi.
