Seattle-based Luxor Technology Corporation announced a $16 million strategic investment round on Tuesday to expand AI hardware brokerage and compute trading. Luxor has moved from bitcoin mining into AI compute. CMT Digital, the venture capital business of Chicago-based CMT Group, led the investment. Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and angel investors also joined the round. The financing combines primary and secondary capital. Luxor describes every investor as an operating partner across the hardware, financing and power components of Luxor's compute supply chain.
The investment follows the September launch of Luxor AI. The business segment adapts Luxor's bitcoin mining capabilities in energy, hardware, software, compute trading and data for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Luxor said its hardware brokerage has handled $1 billion in bitcoin mining ASIC transactions. Luxor's energy business serves more than 75 megawatts of load across ERCOT and SPP. Luxor's agentic cloud platform had processed 1.8 million workloads year to date as of September.
Luxor plans to allocate the funding across four areas. Luxor will expand its agentic cloud platform. Luxor will provide working capital for its AI hardware business. Luxor will increase compute derivatives trading and market making. Luxor will also recruit engineering and go-to-market employees.
Luxor's hardware expansion responds to increasingly constrained supply chains. Luxor's AI hardware desk obtains GPUs and AI servers through several tiers of partners. Luxor says its role as a value-added reseller for major original equipment manufacturers provides access to abandoned orders, special allocations and used equipment markets.
CMT Digital brings almost three decades of experience in electronic trading and market structure. CMT Digital partner Sam Hallene said Luxor understands the energy and infrastructure supporting compute and the financial tools customers require for risk management. Hallene said Luxor developed those capabilities during eight years in digital assets and is now applying those capabilities to AI. Luxor's over-the-counter desk already provides cash-settled options, forwards and backstops linked to compute-rental indexes. Luxor says CMT's investment will help Luxor expand that business as AI compute develops into a tradable market.
Canaan CEO Nangeng Zhang said Canaan is seeking long-term North American power resources under a compute-plus-energy strategy, and investing in Luxor supports those objectives. Zhang described Luxor as a significant partner in bitcoin mining and energy. Luxor CEO and co-founder Nick Hansen said compute markets are converging because miners, power sites and capital previously serving digital mining are now supporting AI.
Luxor introduced Commander earlier this year as a single fleet management system for bitcoin mining operators to oversee operations, control energy consumption and improve profitability. Commander connects with existing infrastructure to provide live fleet monitoring and remote controls for mining machines. Commander also provides tools for responding to changes in hashrate and electricity markets. CoinShares data show public bitcoin miners had signed AI and high-performance computing contracts worth more than $70 billion by the end of March.
