Bitcoin news from June 2026 reveals that publicly traded Bitcoin miners require around $50 billion to finish planned AI infrastructure projects, according to BlocksBridge Consulting. VanEck data shows IREN faces a $21.1 billion funding gap, while Riot Platforms and HIVE Digital need $7.2 billion and $4.6 billion, respectively. Rising borrowing costs and lender scrutiny are complicating large-scale data center financing. IREN secured $3.65 billion in GPU financing at 6% in June and $2.4 billion at 9% in August. Google backed $1.4 billion in lease obligations for Cipher Digital in exchange for equity. Bitcoin analysis from VanEck also shows miner debt surged 500% from Q2 2024.

A June 2026 analysis by BlocksBridge Consulting estimated that publicly traded Bitcoin miners needed roughly $50 billion to complete planned AI infrastructure projects. The analysis cited VanEck data and estimated IREN's funding gap alone at $21.1 billion. Riot Platforms faces estimated funding requirements of $7.2 billion. HIVE Digital faces estimated funding requirements of $4.6 billion. Bitcoin mining companies expanding into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing face sharply different borrowing costs as lenders scrutinize large-scale data center projects. BlocksBridge's latest Miner Weekly newsletter said securing major AI customers has only been part of the challenge for miners. BlocksBridge said companies must raise billions of dollars to purchase computing equipment, build facilities and secure power infrastructure to fulfill contracts. BlocksBridge said large lenders have become more selective about data center loans. BlocksBridge said lending decisions increasingly depend on the customer, the contract and the path to completion. IREN has expanded from Bitcoin mining into AI infrastructure. IREN secured a $3.65 billion GPU financing package in June at a blended interest rate of 6%. IREN subsequently secured a separate $2.4 billion financing arrangement in August at a fixed rate of 9%. The agreements cover different projects and are not directly comparable. The agreements nevertheless show how borrowing costs can vary within the same company. Financing arrangements can carry costs beyond interest payments. In a separate transaction involving Cipher Digital, Google agreed to backstop $1.4 billion in lease obligations in exchange for warrants representing 5.4% of Cipher's equity. The warrant arrangement is subject to certain adjustments. Exercising the warrants could dilute existing shareholders. Even miners with multibillion-dollar AI customer contracts may need substantial additional capital before data centers become operational. Bitcoin miners are taking on billions of dollars in debt to fund AI expansion plans. At the height of the Bitcoin bull market last October, VanEck data showed miners' debt had surged roughly 500% from the second quarter of 2024. Capital requirements have continued to grow during the Bitcoin bear market as miners shift away from BTC mining amid deteriorating mining economics.
