Meanwhile, a Bitcoin life insurance company backed by Sam Altman, secures additional funding.
Amid broader macroeconomic instability, international demand for Bitcoin life insurance policies has risen, meanwhile completing a new round of funding.
Meanwhile, a life insurance company approved to operate entirely in Bitcoin, has announced it has secured $37.5 million in new funding from existing investors.
The Bermuda-based company said its supporters include Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. To date, Meanwhile has raised over $180 million in funding.
Meanwhile stated that this funding round was led by Bain Capital Crypto, with participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital.
The company stated on Thursday that this funding round comes amid growing international demand for its Bitcoin life insurance policies, particularly in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, a trend occurring against a backdrop of broader macroeconomic instability.
“Global wealthy families already hold Bitcoin. What they’ve been missing is a regulated way to pass it on,” said Zac Townsend, co-founder and CEO of Meanwhile, in a statement. “Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking. This funding round allows us to meet their demand.”
Pass Bitcoin on to the next generation
In early 2026, Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay, a single-premium whole life insurance product designed for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. This is the company’s second product line; previously, it introduced BTC 10-Pay for U.S. taxpayers.
The company states that policies can be held by individuals, trusts, or corporations, making them suitable for succession and estate planning.
Meanwhile, it also stated that its long-term net underwriting income has already exceeded last year’s full-year total and is on track to more than double by 2026, though it did not disclose specific figures.
In June this year, Cointelegraph reported that global insurance brokerage and risk consulting firm WTW acquired the crypto insurance platform Redefind and launched a digital asset protection service covering costs related to forensic investigations, asset tracing, and legal recovery in the event of theft or loss.
Redefind is a crypto insurance platform that enables individuals and institutions to purchase insurance for digital assets held under various custody arrangements. The company states that its system uses cryptographic proof of ownership to verify insured assets.
