What to Know

- Grayscale’s GBTC led redemptions, while BlackRock’s IBIT and Bitwise’s BITB attracted capital and partially reduced overall losses during both sessions.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $147.3 million in combined withdrawals across two sessions, interrupting September’s previously strong institutional investment activity. According to Onchain Lens, investors removed $100.7 million from the products on September 9, following $46.6 million withdrawn one session earlier.
These consecutive outflows represent a notable reversal for funds that attracted substantial institutional capital during September’s opening trading sessions. Nevertheless, the monthly flow balance remains positive because earlier allocations created a considerable cushion against the recent wave of redemptions.
Onchain Lens estimates that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have accumulated approximately $622.7 million in net inflows throughout September. Institutional investors allocated roughly $731 million to the products on September 3, producing one of the month’s strongest sessions.
That substantial inflow coincided with Bitcoin reclaiming $80,000 as investors responded positively to monetary policy and cryptocurrency regulatory developments. However, buying activity weakened following the extended United States holiday weekend, placing pressure on several prominent investment products.
SoSoValue data placed total net redemptions for September 8 at approximately $46.65 million across the tracked Bitcoin funds. Grayscale’s GBTC led the withdrawals with nearly $65.5 million, while Fidelity’s FBTC and Invesco’s BTCO also recorded losses.

BlackRock and Bitwise Inflows Offset Part of Broader Bitcoin ETF Withdrawals
Several competing products attracted institutional capital during the same session, partially reducing the combined losses across the broader ETF market. BlackRock’s IBIT received approximately $10.7 million, showing that selected funds maintained demand despite the wider decline in daily allocations.
Additionally, Bitwise’s BITB attracted around $14.5 million, further limiting the net withdrawal figure reported across all issuers. Even so, selling accelerated during the following session, when withdrawals more than doubled the amount removed one trading day earlier.
The September 9 result weakened the momentum established during the month’s opening sessions but did not erase overall inflow gains. Bitcoin’s struggle around the psychologically important $80,000 level has accompanied the recent change in institutional fund allocation patterns.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision has encouraged cautious positioning among cryptocurrency and traditional market investors. Market participants are assessing whether upcoming policy signals could influence financial liquidity and investor appetite for higher-risk assets.
Moreover, rising Treasury yields have increased pressure across financial markets, while higher oil prices have strengthened persistent inflation concerns. Brent crude moved above $100 per barrel on Wednesday, potentially complicating expectations for interest rates and economic conditions.
Sustained inflation could restrict financial conditions supporting Bitcoin demand, particularly among institutions managing exposure to several volatile asset classes. Despite those pressures, September’s positive ETF balance demonstrates that institutional participation has not completely reversed during the latest withdrawal streak.
Upcoming flow figures could clarify whether investors are securing profits temporarily or reducing their broader exposure to Bitcoin investment products. For now, the two-session withdrawal streak marks a clear slowdown, although September retains substantial net inflows from earlier institutional allocations.
