What to Know

  • U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $998.95 million, their largest daily inflow in eleven months, supporting Bitcoin’s move above $87,000 decisively.
  • BlackRock’s IBIT led fund demand, while Ethereum ETFs gained $269.98 million as institutional cryptocurrency allocations strengthened across regulated investment products.
  • Short liquidations worth $844 million accelerated Bitcoin’s breakout, while macroeconomic conditions and technical momentum supported further market gains above resistance.

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted $998.95 million on Monday, recording their strongest daily inflow in 11 months. Bitcoin also climbed above $87,000 as institutional demand and improving risk appetite supported the broader cryptocurrency market.

According to SoSoValue, BlackRock’s IBIT led the session with $381.4 million, while Ark and 21Shares’ ARKB secured $289.1 million. Fidelity’s FBTC followed with $238.8 million, while funds from Grayscale, Bitwise, and Morgan Stanley also registered positive flows.

Monday’s combined inflow represented the largest daily total since October 6, 2025, when the funds attracted approximately $1.2 billion. Spot Ethereum ETFs also recorded $269.98 million in net inflows, their strongest single-day performance since October 7, 2025. Ether gained 2.5% and traded near $2,730, reflecting renewed investment across the two largest cryptocurrency markets.

ETF Demand and Short Liquidations Support Bitcoin

Bitcoin gained 4.7% within 24 hours and traded around $85,400 early Tuesday, having briefly reached approximately $87,300 on Monday. The peak marked BTC’s highest level since January 2026 and confirmed a breakout above resistance that previously restricted its recovery.

Presto Research associate Min Jung attributed the advance to stronger risk appetite, spot ETF demand, and extensive short covering. Moreover, the large ETF inflows strengthened momentum by signaling that institutional investors had increased their Bitcoin exposure.

According to CoinGlass, cryptocurrency liquidations reached $1.06 billion within 24 hours, including $844 million in short positions. Consequently, forced closures among bearish traders accelerated the advance as Bitcoin moved through technical levels.

ViaBTC chief analyst Jeff Ko linked the movement to Bitcoin clearing $82,000, which had previously capped the market. Hence, the breakout likely encouraged systematic trading strategies to reenter while institutional purchases supported demand in the market.

Macro Conditions Add Support

BTSE chief operating officer Jeff Mei identified falling oil prices and easing Treasury yields as supportive macroeconomic factors. Additionally, President Donald Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced another catalyst for markets.

Positive funding rates and elevated open interest showed that traders increased long exposure during Bitcoin’s recovery. However, leverage could intensify volatility if BTC fails to maintain support above $85,000. Sustained ETF inflows could strengthen Bitcoin’s breakout, while weaker institutional demand may expose the market to renewed selling pressure.
