Odaily Planet Daily reports: Bitcoin developer Chris Guida has reset code for a PoW change originally written by Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr in 2017 onto the recent Bitcoin Knots codebase. The code has not been scheduled for activation; Guida stated it is an emergency contingency plan, not an imminent fork. BIP-110 is a temporary soft fork proposal intended to limit the amount of arbitrary data embeddable in Bitcoin transactions within approximately one year, including reinstating the 83-byte consensus limit for OP_RETURN. The proposal requires support signals from 55% of miners—that is, 1,109 out of 2,016 blocks—to achieve early lock-in. If the threshold is not met, a mandatory signaling window will begin at block 961632, expected around August 8 or 9. Nodes enforcing BIP-110 will then reject blocks that do not signal support; lock-in is expected no later than block 963648, with an activation target around block 965664. As of 8:15 AM EDT on August 7, 2026, the chain tip height is 961425, leaving 207 blocks until the mandatory window begins. Of 1,818 blocks, only 47 have signaled support for BIP-110, resulting in a current signaling rate of approximately 2.59%.
