Ben Goertzel, Chair of the AGI Association and lead scientist for the Sophia robot, shared on-chain news on June 21, 2026, advocating for AGI to be developed on blockchain networks. He emphasized the need to prevent control by venture capital or big tech firms. Through SingularityNET and the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, he aims to build a decentralized AGI system. Goertzel highlighted the importance of blockchain in enabling a distributed infrastructure to avoid monopolization. He also outlined an AI Agent Economy, with the first product, Omega Claw, scheduled for a near-term launch.

BlockBeats news, on June 21, Ben Goertzel, Chairman of the AGI Association and Chief Scientist of the Sophia robot, stated that artificial general intelligence (AGI) is "too important to be controlled by venture capitalists or a few tech companies," and advocated building an open, decentralized AGI system via blockchain networks as an alternative to closed-model approaches such as those of OpenAI and Anthropic.

Goertzel advances these initiatives through his project SingularityNET and the Alliance for Artificial Superintelligence, a system built on a cryptographic network designed to enable global users to collectively own and maintain AI capabilities. He emphasizes that open-source code alone is insufficient; AGI must run on decentralized infrastructure, or it will remain controlled by a few powerful computing giants.

He proposed the concept of an "AI Agent Economy," in which users can deploy multiple AI agents to collaborate on tasks and execute transactions. The associated system will eventually offer paid AI services while maintaining a decentralized backend architecture, all while hiding the underlying blockchain infrastructure from users.

Goertzel expects AGI to emerge between 2027 and 2030 and warns that if technological development is concentrated in only a few countries or corporations, it could exacerbate global inequality. He stated that his first AI agent product, Omega Claw, will be released soon.
