ChainThink reports that on July 20, Base announced on X that it will launch Native Account Abstraction (EIP-8130) as part of its Cobalt upgrade in September, and is collaborating with Optimism, Coinbase, and WalletConnect to implement this standard across all EVM chains.
OP Stack chains are expected to follow later this year.
Base stated that, compared to the existing smart account solution ERC-4337, EIP-8130 can reduce USDC transfer gas consumption by 63.2%, from 125,000 to 46,000, and decrease transaction byte size by 83.4%.
To facilitate early testing by developers, Base has launched a temporary development network, Base Vibenet.
The Cobalt upgrade's core features include transaction fee sponsorship, batch calls, and session keys, corresponding to app-sponsored Gas, merging multiple transactions, and authorizing apps to sign on your behalf within specific limits.
In addition, EIP-8130 supports cross-chain account portability, quantum-resistant key rotation, parallel nonces, and sub-accounts.
