Foreign media report that Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group (DCG), is shifting greater focus toward the decentralized AI sector and continuing to increase his investment in the Bittensor ecosystem. The report notes that he views TAO as a new class of assets following the scarcity models of Bitcoin and Zcash.
TAO is being compared to Bitcoin and Zcash.
The report, citing market discussions, noted that Silbert recognizes comparing TAO with Bitcoin and Zcash. The primary reason is that these assets all emphasize a fixed supply cap and halving mechanisms.
The total supply of Bittensor's TAO token is capped at 21 million, with a scheduled halving mechanism built into its issuance schedule. The article suggests that this supply structure is one of the key reasons Silbert values it.
The mining logic shifts to competition among AI models.
Unlike traditional proof-of-work networks, Bittensor’s participants do not merely compete for general computational power. Reports indicate that the network’s “miners” primarily compete in AI model training and evaluation, with rewards distributed across different subnets.
The article argues that Bittensor seeks to directly link token incentives with AI production activities, rather than stopping at mere hash calculations. This is also the primary reason it is categorized within the decentralized AI赛道.
DCG’s affiliated entities have already made complementary arrangements.
The report mentions that Silbert’s affiliated companies have been investing in Bittensor since 2021. In addition to capital investment, DCG is also building commercial infrastructure around this ecosystem.
Among them, Yuma Group, led by Silbert, is described as one of the key validators in the ecosystem and also manages dedicated funds for accredited investors. Another DCG subsidiary, Grayscale Investments, provides traditional market investors with compliant exposure through its dedicated AI trust product.
The article suggests that this approach resembles DCG’s early strategy of building investment access points around Bitcoin and Zcash. The key difference is that this time, the focus has shifted from cryptocurrencies themselves to decentralized AI networks.
