Crypto fund flows just did the financial equivalent of a 180-degree handbrake turn. Bank of America’s weekly “The Flow Show” report shows $3.2 billion in net inflows into crypto funds for the week ending in late August 2026, the largest single-week haul since October 2025.
To put the swing in perspective: the prior week saw $392 million in outflows. That’s a roughly $3 billion week-over-week reversal.
Where the money went
US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs did the heavy lifting, collectively pulling in about $2.6 billion of the total during the week ending August 22, 2026.
Bitcoin ETFs alone accounted for $1.9 billion. Ethereum ETFs contributed $697 million. The remaining $600 million or so in inflows landed across other crypto fund vehicles. Together Bitcoin and Ethereum represented roughly 81% of the week’s total inflows.
August shapes up as a banner month for Bitcoin ETFs
This wasn’t a one-week fluke. Monthly BTC ETF inflows for August 2026 surpassed $3 billion, with multiple consecutive days of positive flows fueling the total. That pace makes August one of the strongest months for Bitcoin ETFs on record.
For comparison, Bank of America flagged crypto fund inflows of just $0.9 billion during a week in July 2026. The jump from sub-billion-dollar weeks to $3.2 billion in a single week illustrates how quickly sentiment can shift in digital asset markets.
Bitcoin’s price provided the backdrop. The leading cryptocurrency rallied to levels near or above the $78,000 to $80,000 range during the period, aligning with a broader risk-on mood across financial markets.
What’s driving institutional demand
Spot ETFs have changed the equation for a specific type of buyer: the compliance-constrained institution that wants crypto exposure without touching actual tokens. Pension funds, endowments, and registered investment advisors can now allocate to Bitcoin and Ethereum through the same brokerage accounts they use for everything else.
Bank of America has been expanding client access to digital asset investment products, allowing certain clients to allocate up to 4% of their portfolios into regulated crypto products.
The Ethereum ETF numbers deserve their own moment. At $697 million in a single week, Ether-focused products are proving they can attract meaningful capital when market conditions cooperate.
