ChianCatcher report: Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, during an interview on a blog show under Cypherpunk, stated that cryptocurrency is not merely a business phenomenon but also an ideological one—banks and political systems have failed, and there is a need to exit them in favor of self-sovereignty, with privacy being the missing piece. He noted that Bitcoin’s two key innovations are programmability, represented by Ethereum, and privacy, represented by Zcash. The period from 2009 to 2017 proved Bitcoin’s feasibility; from 2017 to 2025, programmability was proven; now, from approximately 2025 to 2030, we enter the era of privacy. Privacy means encrypting everything already built using ZK—such as ZK KYC, ZK DEX, and ZK smart contracts—to achieve minimal necessary information disclosure. This may require modifications to the base layer, new L1 blockchains, or entirely new companies. Technically, ZK can attract high-IQ talent just as AI does.

Balaji Srinivasan, former CTO of Coinbase, told the Cypherpunk blog that 2025–2030 will mark the privacy era in crypto. He highlighted Bitcoin’s innovations, including Ethereum’s programmability and Zcash’s privacy features, with the next phase relying on zero-knowledge technologies such as zk-SNARKs and zk-rollups. ZKYC, ZK DEXs, and ZK smart contracts will help reduce data exposure.
