ChainCatcher reports that the file-sharing platform LimeWire has announced its acquisition by the Web3 ecosystem project BabyDoge, with financial terms of the transaction undisclosed. The co-founders Julian Zehetmayr and Paul Zehetmayr, who rebuilt LimeWire’s technology infrastructure over the past five years, have officially stepped down, with the platform now led by Abel Czupor and BabyDoge. Abel Czupor stated that Julian and Paul built an infrastructure used by approximately 8 million people per month. As part of the acquisition, LMWR has become the native utility token of the LimeWire platform, used for services such as decentralized file storage and platform AI tools. An updated product roadmap for the LimeWire Network is expected to be released in the coming weeks. BabyDoge claims its community exceeds 3 million users and previously held a Guinness World Record for animal charity donations. LimeWire was rebuilt and relaunched in 2022, with a statement clarifying no affiliation with the original LimeWire LLC or Lime Group LLC.
