Aster’s native token, ASTER, continued to trade near $0.61 despite the protocol using 99% of its daily platform fees to repurchase tokens from the market.
The buyback program has removed millions of ASTER since late June. However, current trading data suggests the purchases have yet to generate sustained buying momentum or reverse the token’s broader price trend.
Aster has repurchased more than 5.3 million ASTER
Under Aster’s revised tokenomics, 99% of daily platform fees are automatically used to buy ASTER on the open market. At the same time, an equivalent number of tokens are burned from the project’s reserves.
The protocol repurchased approximately 3.08 million ASTER between June 29 and July 13, followed by another 2.21 million between July 13 and 27.
That brings total buybacks across the two reporting periods to roughly 5.30 million ASTER, with an equal number removed from reserves.
Even so, the impact on circulating supply remains relatively modest.
The repurchased tokens represent only about 0.2% of ASTER’s 2.7 billion circulating supply.
Although Aster has significantly reduced ongoing emissions under its updated tokenomics, only around 34% of its maximum eight-billion-token supply is currently in circulation. This means future distributions remain part of the longer-term supply outlook.
Market data shows limited buying momentum
Despite the ongoing buybacks, the market has yet to show clear signs of sustained accumulation.
ASTER traded around $0.61 on Coinbase, remaining roughly 8% below the anchored volume-weighted average price [VWAP] of $0.664, measured from the June 17 tokenomics announcement.
That indicates the average volume-weighted purchase price since the announcement remains above the current market price.
Meanwhile, the Chaikin Money Flow [CMF] indicator stood at -0.08 and has remained mostly negative since mid-July, suggesting selling pressure has continued to outweigh buying activity.
Trading volume has also fallen sharply since the initial tokenomics announcement, indicating the latest rebound from around $0.59 has attracted relatively limited participation.
It is worth noting that Coinbase’s ASTER/USDC market remains comparatively thin, meaning its trading activity may not fully represent price action across all exchanges.
Can ASTER reclaim $0.66?
The immediate support sits between $0.59 and $0.60.
If buyers fail to defend that zone, ASTER could revisit $0.58.
On the upside, initial resistance lies between $0.62 and $0.63, followed by $0.64 and $0.65.
A move back above the anchored VWAP near $0.664 would provide stronger evidence that the buyback programme is beginning to translate into broader market demand rather than simply offsetting existing selling pressure.
