ARK Invest’s latest weekly market report highlights AI agents as a key growth driver for Anthropic and OpenAI. Anthropic has filed a draft S-1 with the SEC and is projected to reach $74 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) by mid-2026. OpenAI’s ARR is now $41 billion. Together, their combined revenue exceeds that of SAP, Salesforce, and Adobe. Grok 4.6 from SpaceXAI offers lower costs, at $0.84 per task. Altcoins to watch may benefit from AI-driven infrastructure expansion and competitive model pricing.
ME AI update, August 23: Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest released its weekly market report, covering three key themes: AI agents will continue to drive growth at Anthropic and OpenAI: Anthropic submitted a draft S-1 to the SEC on June 1 in preparation for a potential IPO and has been engaging with investors to gauge market sentiment. As of the end of May, Anthropic’s annualized recurring revenue (ARR) reached $47 billion, up more than fivefold from approximately $9 billion at the start of 2026. Data provider TickerTrends estimates its current ARR may exceed $74 billion. OpenAI’s ARR stands at approximately $41 billion—roughly double its $20 billion figure at the start of the year. Combined, their ARR exceeds $115 billion, surpassing the combined 12-month revenue of SAP, Salesforce, and Adobe, and approaching Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Processes segment’s annualized run rate of about $150 billion. Both companies plan to raise capital through public markets to fund large-scale compute infrastructure. Grok 4.6 may further drive down the cost curve for frontier AI: SpaceXAI’s Grok 4.6 is designed for programming, agent tasks, and knowledge work, featuring a key context window of 500,000 tokens with input pricing at $2 per million tokens and output at $6 per million tokens—significantly lower than OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol ($5/$30) and Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 ($10/$50). Artificial Analysis rates its Intelligence Index score at 61, matching GPT-5.6 Sol and trailing only Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5 by about 1 to 2 points, while offering substantially lower pricing. In terms of task cost, Grok 4.6 is at $0.84 per task, positioning it on the intelligent-cost Pareto frontier; its AA-Briefcase long-term agent knowledge work Elo score of 1577 is nearly identical to Claude Fable 5’s 1574. SpaceXAI also launched Grok Bot, extending competition from model performance to the agent software layer capable of running extended tasks. As model capabilities improve, cost metrics should shift from “price per token” to “price per completed task.” If training and inference costs continue to decline annually by 85% and 99.9% respectively, enterprises will deploy agents across more workflows, significantly accelerating AI adoption.
