Huo Xing Finance reports that The Browser Company has announced it will completely shut down the macOS and Windows versions of the Arc browser on December 22, 2026, and has already closed new user registrations. Starting November 23, AI features, login functionality, and tab synchronization on mobile devices will be gradually discontinued. The team will now fully focus on the AI browser Dia. Arc was launched in 2022, initially available only to Mac users via invitation; it opened to the public in 2023 and gradually expanded to Windows and mobile platforms in 2024. The product features a vertical tab bar, isolated workspaces, automatic tab organization, split-screen browsing, and the ability for users to directly modify webpage appearances. The company previously disclosed that Arc had over one million weekly active users. Founder Josh Miller stated in 2025 that Arc was too complex and had too high a learning curve for average users, with only 5.52% of daily active users frequently using multiple workspaces. Development of new features was halted that year in favor of Dia. In October of the same year, the parent company was acquired by Atlassian for approximately $610 million. The shutdown is justified by the need for continuous investment in browser security in the AI era, requiring engineering and security resources to be consolidated into Dia.

Arc Browser will discontinue its desktop versions by December 22, 2026, with new user registrations already closed. Starting November 23, mobile AI features and tab syncing will be gradually phased out as the team transitions focus to Dia, an AI- and crypto-news-focused browser. Arc, launched in 2022, reached over one million weekly active users but faced challenges due to its complexity. Founder Josh Miller cited low adoption of workspace features, prompting a strategic shift in 2025. The parent company was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in October 2025. The shutdown is being driven by new token listing requirements and increasing demands for AI security.
