Under the leadership of Apple CEO John Ternus and Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji, Apple has decided to cancel the planned M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra chips, marking the first time in a single chip generation that high-performance variants are entirely omitted. The base M6 chip (codenamed Komodo) is expected to launch in late 2026 and will be used in entry-level MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iMac, and select iPad Pro and iPad Air models. The AI-optimized base M7 chip (codenamed Delos) is expected to debut in the first half of 2027, with memory bandwidth reaching approximately 240 GB/s. Although the high-end M6 chips have been canceled, Apple still plans to release the M5 Ultra (codenamed Sotra D) before the end of 2026 for an updated Mac Studio lineup.
