IT Home, October 17: On October 15 local time, Anthropic announced that, starting October 29, 2026, Claude Haiku 4.5 will be removed from the model selector for the Free, Pro, and Max plans, affecting regular chat on web, desktop, and mobile, as well as Claude Cowork and Claude Design features.
Until October 29, users can still select Haiku 4.5 from the "More models" option in the model selector; after this date, the entry will be removed from the list. If Haiku 4.5 is currently selected, Claude will automatically switch it to Haiku 5.5.
This adjustment does not affect the availability of Haiku 4.5 in the Claude Code, Team, and Enterprise plans, or on the Claude Platform (API). Developers using Haiku 4.5 via the Anthropic API, as well as Team and Enterprise plan users, are not affected by this change.
For existing Haiku 4.5 conversations, Anthropic will not delete any content. After October 29, when reopening these conversations and continuing to input, responses will be generated by Haiku 5.5, and users can still switch to other models at any time within the conversation. To retain a copy of the chat, users can export their data at any time using Claude’s data export feature.
IT Home previously reported that Haiku 5.5 was officially released on October 7, 2026, and is the first model in the Haiku series to support adjustable reasoning levels, with an expanded context window of up to 1 million tokens and a maximum output increase to 128K tokens, showing significant improvements in coding and agent tasks compared to Haiku 4.5.
In terms of pricing, Anthropic stated that the average operating cost of Haiku 5.5 is approximately 75% lower than that of Haiku 4.5; for prompts of up to 100,000 tokens, costs decrease by up to 90%, and previously, about 90% of Haiku series requests fell within this length range.
