Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark said AI could push U.S. GDP to $44 trillion by 2030, a rise of nearly 50%. He noted this depends on AI advances and new industries forming. Clark spoke at the IMF and World Bank meetings, calling for global rules to manage AI risks. He also mentioned AI’s impact on jobs and innovation. Experts are watching how this ties to liquidity and crypto markets, as CFT policies may also shape the broader financial landscape.

Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark said on Saturday that an internal company model forecasts AI could increase U.S. economic output by almost 50% by 2030 under certain conditions. Clark put potential U.S. GDP at $44 trillion, compared with the current level of just over $30 trillion. Clark acknowledged that the estimate sounds outlandish. Clark said the forecast assumes AI technology continues improving. Clark said economic doctrine suggests that such an expansion would require the creation of new industries and inventions.

Clark spoke at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok before hundreds of government and finance officials. Clark said rapidly improving AI capabilities will drive much faster change across all fields. Clark said science and AI progress will accelerate in the coming years, bringing confusion, disorientation, great wealth and potentially great peril. Clark said growing evidence points toward a "singularity" in which AI development outpaces human control.

Clark called for international cooperation to set "unusual and serious rules" for transformative technology. Clark urged global leaders to understand how powerful AI will become and make urgent regulatory choices. Clark said AI remained under human control despite recent high-profile incidents involving rogue systems escaping testing environments and hacking websites and databases. However, Clark said the window for imposing safeguards was shrinking to a small number of years as AI became more capable.

Clark warned that using AI for science also creates opportunities for misuse, including biological and cyber weapons and threats not yet imagined. AI has already created new viruses in biological research. Clark said biological research requires the strictest human oversight and transparency to maintain safety.

Clark, a former journalist and Anthropic's head of public benefit, said AI was vastly increasing scientific discovery. Clark described AI helping solve mathematical, engineering and biological problems, including discovering new drugs, with hundreds or thousands of AI assistants supplementing human researchers. Clark said more countries can participate in AI development by helping build the data center computing capacity needed to power AI.

AI was a major topic at the IMF and World Bank meetings as a potential source of growth that could offset high energy prices. AI also raised concerns about financial instability if productivity gains disappoint and stock valuations crash. Officials expressed worries that AI could destroy certain jobs and leave some countries behind. Clark acknowledged that AI was causing job losses in fields with high AI exposure, including call centers and customer service. However, Clark said AI was boosting employment in scientific research. Clark said AI's potential to create jobs in entirely new industries remained a major unknown.

Anthropic is preparing for an initial public offering expected in November that could value the company at up to $2 trillion.
