Anthropic filed an S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, outlining a strategy that encourages enterprise customers to adopt multiple Claude products. The filing suggests that the strategy is succeeding. More than half of customers spending at least $100,000 annually now use both the Claude platform and a first-party application such as Claude Code or Cowork. The share was about 30% at the end of last year.
As of September 30, Anthropic had more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000 annually. Anthropic had more than 1,900 customers spending upwards of $1 million annually. About 250 customers spent $10 million or more annually. Anthropic attributed customer momentum to substantial increases in usage as organizations recognize the value of deploying Claude more widely. Anthropic said that expansion drove net revenue retention to about 900% at the end of the third quarter.
The S-1 describes the pace and extent of enterprise adoption as strong evidence of Claude's leading position in AI. Anthropic presents Claude as advancing AI capabilities across models, the developer platform and applications, rather than a fixed product for one purpose. The filing says improvements in any one layer compound across all three layers, speeding the delivery of more capable intelligence. The filing credits that integration with encouraging customers to combine the Claude platform with first-party applications.
Anthropic is developing a cross-product ecosystem similar to those that helped Amazon and Uber retain customers. A business using Anthropic's API can add Claude Code for engineers and then Cowork for the wider workforce without Anthropic finding a new buyer for each product. According to the filing, the highest-spending 5% of Claude Enterprise customers using Claude Code spent about 20 times as much monthly in the third quarter as the average enterprise user without the coding tool. The comparison indicates substantial potential to increase spending per user and helps explain Anthropic's interest in selling applications to API customers.
Anthropic said investments in Applied AI teams strengthen the organic spread of Claude within customers' businesses. An internal Applied AI team helps startups and enterprises integrate Claude into existing technology systems. Anthropic recently launched Ode with Anthropic, a separate venture with Blackstone and other private equity firms. The venture places forward-deployed engineers inside businesses to develop customized AI tools using Claude.
Anthropic also distributes Claude through partnerships with AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Under the joint go-to-market arrangement described in the filing, Anthropic contracts directly with customers and pays each cloud provider a fee. Anthropic says the arrangement prevents channel conflict and allows Anthropic to determine pricing.
Customer retention may become essential as Anthropic seeks to repeatedly transform the business through new product categories intended to far exceed the economic value of existing products. Anthropic says the company will put less effort than a typical business into protecting existing products and business models, and more into developing new ones.
The filing reported revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion in the corresponding period last year. However, Anthropic warned that cloud distribution partners increasingly view Anthropic as a competitor, potentially making computing capacity harder to secure. The filing says Amazon, Google and Microsoft may favor their own computing needs or competitors in which those companies have invested.
The filing also identifies dependence on large customers as a risk. Anthropic warned that unfavorable changes in demand from the largest customers could damage the business and prospects. Anthropic said losing major customers or substantial spending would hurt the business, financial condition and operating results unless new customers or increased spending elsewhere offset the losses. Anthropic did not immediately answer a request for comment.
