ChainCatcher report: AI company Anthropic plans to go public as early as mid-November, with market discussions suggesting an IPO valuation of approximately $1.5 trillion—about 55% higher than its $965 billion valuation from financing in May this year. Based on this potential valuation, Spark Capital’s $75 million investment in 2023 could now be worth approximately $10.9 billion; at the time, the company was valued at around $5 billion, and Spark Capital secured a board seat, making it the only known venture capital firm with such representation. Sound Ventures initially invested $350 million and later added $4 billion; founded by Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher and entering in 2023, its stake is now worth billions of dollars. Menlo Ventures has invested over $1 billion cumulatively, with its stake valued at approximately $21.8 billion, including a $500 million Series D round and its first entry in May 2023. Iconiq entered in 2025, having invested over $6 billion cumulatively, with its stake potentially worth around $26.4 billion—its initial investment already valued the company at $183 billion. Sequoia Capital began investing this year, committing approximately $3 billion and holding roughly 1% of shares, valued at about $15 billion; it previously invested in OpenAI and xAI. Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC made its first investment in 2025, committing over $4.5 billion and holding approximately 1% of shares, valued at around $15 billion. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt invested tens of millions of dollars in 2021, holding roughly 1% of shares, valued at approximately $15 billion. FTX invested $500 million in 2021, initially holding 13.56% of shares, diluted to 7.84% by 2024; after bankruptcy liquidation, it sold all its shares, recovering approximately $1.3 billion with actual gains of about $800 million. Based on the pre-dilution 7.84% stake and a $1.5 trillion valuation, the theoretical value would be approximately $117.6 billion—$116.3 billion higher than the actual sale price—this calculation does not account for subsequent dilution from later funding rounds. In 2024, FTX sold its entire Anthropic stake in batches; the first transaction of approximately $884 million involved 24 buyers: Mubadala’s affiliated entity ATIC purchased about $500 million, Jane Street bought $100 million, and Fidelity’s funds acquired $450 million. Lightspeed holds less than 2%; Google, Amazon, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Founders Fund, Coatue, Altimeter, and others have also invested, but public holding data is incomplete, making precise return calculations for each investor unfeasible.
