On Thursday, Anthropic announced that its AI chatbot Claude now includes a Personal Finance tool, providing on-chain insights for users interested in financial tracking. The tool connects to bank and credit card accounts via Plaid, allowing users to ask questions about their spending. It is read-only and does not permit fund transfers or investments. The feature categorizes expenses, identifies duplicate charges, and explains terms such as APR. Personal Finance will be available in beta this week to U.S.-based Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers. While new token listings remain a key focus for many in the crypto space, this move underscores Anthropic’s expansion into financial tools.
CoinDesk reports:

On Thursday, Anthropic announced that Claude has added a new tool called "Personal Finance," designed to help users track their finances. With this tool, users can connect their bank and credit card accounts via Plaid and ask Claude questions about their personal finances. Anthropic stated that the feature operates in read-only mode, meaning Personal Finance cannot transfer, manage, or invest users' funds.

By enabling Claude to directly connect to bank and credit card accounts, Anthropic is positioning this chatbot as a financial companion that helps users understand their spending and track where their money goes—beyond offering generic advice.

With this feature now live, Claude is catching up to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which launched a similar personal finance tool in May, allowing users to connect financial accounts and ask questions ranging from spending patterns to long-term financial planning.

Anthropic wrote in a blog post: “Claude will answer you in everyday language using information from your balance and transaction history, and will explain any new terms you’re unfamiliar with.” Anthropic also stated: “Like other Claude features, Personal Finance includes no ads or sponsored recommendations, and does not offer its own credit cards, loans, or savings accounts, so your financial questions are answered directly.”

For example, at the end of the month, a user can ask Claude, “Where did all my money go this month?” The chatbot will then summarize expenses from connected accounts and categorize them, such as rent and utilities, dining, and shopping. The user can follow up with additional questions, like “Is this more than usual?” or “What else did I miss?”

Anthropic states that this tool does more than provide basic spending summaries—it analyzes transactions in connected accounts to identify potential issues such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and steadily increasing bills. Users can also ask broader questions, such as whether they are spending more than they earn. The tool can also explain financial concepts like APR (annual percentage rate) and show users, through calculations, how much interest they paid over the past year.

Of course, some people may be hesitant to connect their financial accounts to an AI chatbot. Anthropic states that Claude can only access the name of each connected bank, the account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, the balance, credit limit, and up to two years of transaction history.

In addition, the company noted that conversations users have with Claude in the Personal Finance center are not used to train its models.

Personal Finance will begin rolling out in beta this week to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States.

The launch of this new tool comes as Anthropic continues to expand Claude into new verticals. For example, earlier this year, Anthropic introduced Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services.
