Anthropic just gave its AI a pair of eyes for design. Claude Design, the company’s new visual creation tool, can scan any live website URL and automatically extract its entire design system, including colors, typography, spacing, and reusable components.
The tool, powered by Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.7 model, launched for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers via claude.ai/design.
What Claude Design actually does
Point Claude Design at any URL and it pulls out the media assets, color palettes, typography scales, and branding elements that make that site look the way it does. The tool reconstructs those elements into a coherent, reusable design system. From there, users can generate prototypes, mockups, and landing pages that maintain brand consistency, all without opening Figma or knowing what kerning means.
The platform also supports imports from codebases, Figma files, and PDFs. A June 2026 update added the ability to pull design systems directly from GitHub repositories, along with enterprise-grade admin controls for teams that need to lock down brand standards.
That same update introduced bidirectional integration with Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding tool, allowing designers and developers to pass work back and forth between the visual and code layers.
Why this matters beyond the design world
Anthropic is positioning Claude Design squarely at non-designers: founders, product managers, marketing teams, and anyone who has ever tried to build a landing page by copying hex codes from a competitor’s site.
That distinction matters because the design software market is valued at roughly $60 billion. Figma and Canva have dominated by serving different ends of the skill spectrum. Figma owns the professional workflow. Canva owns the “I need a social media graphic in five minutes” crowd. Claude Design is trying to collapse that gap entirely by making sophisticated design output accessible to anyone with an Anthropic subscription.
Community feedback across Reddit and design blogs has been cautiously optimistic. A startup founder can scan a competitor’s site, extract the design language, and spin up a branded prototype in minutes rather than weeks.
The competitive landscape and what investors should watch
Anthropic is bundling creative tools directly into its subscription tiers, turning Claude from a chatbot into something closer to an integrated software suite. The bidirectional integration between Claude Code and Claude Design is the clearest evidence of this strategy, with each new tool making the overall subscription stickier.
Automated design extraction raises questions about intellectual property. Scanning a competitor’s website and rebuilding their visual identity sits in a legal gray area that hasn’t been tested at scale.
The June update’s focus on admin controls and team-level brand standards suggests the company is targeting sticky enterprise contracts rather than just individual subscribers. The $60 billion design software market now has a new major competitor.
