ChainCatcher report: On September 9, Ara Kharazian, Chief Economist at Ramp, a corporate spending management platform, released the Ramp AI Index for September 2026. The index tracks U.S. corporate AI adoption based on Ramp’s spending data. In August, Anthropic accounted for 43.8% of U.S. enterprises paying for subscriptions or tokens, an increase of 0.34 percentage points month-over-month; OpenAI held 39.8%, up 0.09 percentage points month-over-month. Overall new AI adoption continues to grow, but at a slowing pace, with technology sectors such as information, finance, and professional services leading. The median monthly AI spend per employee among the top 1% of companies decreased by 9.7%, falling from $7,976 to $7,205. The effective price per million tokens dropped 41% from its March 2026 peak of $1.15 to $0.68. Lower-cost standard models are driving usage, while frontier models (Opus, Fable, Sol) account for 45% of token share. Adoption of open-source models remains limited, representing 6.4% of AI-spending companies and 3.6% of all companies.
